The Salem Pops Orchestra, Larry Harrington, conductor, opens its 46th season with "Star Spangled Pops" on November 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Historic Elsinore Theatre. As its name implies, this program provides a great big helping of good old-fashioned musical patriotism to honor America. The program will feature tap dance duo Jane Morehead and Dan Wold of Classic Tap Dance Studio. They will perform "Tapping to Cohan," a medley of George M. Cohan tunes arranged by John T. Bartsch, Jr.  Other guests include Captain Ramona Treat, U. S. Army, who will do a poetry reading and vocalist Mark Kershner will perform a solo.

The Pops will perform several new arrangements, such as James Swearingen's "Flight of Valor," which commemorates the people aboard United Flight 93. There will also be several familiar marches such as "The National Emblem," "Seventy Six Trombones" and "You're A Grand Old Flag."

Individual tickets cost $15 for Mezzanine Reserved and $12 for General Admission and are available from Salem Pops Orchestra members, the Elsinore Ticket Office at 170 High St. SE, all Safeway TicketsWest outlets and by calling 1 (800) 992-8499. Season tickets for the Pops' 2007-08 concert season are also available, reducing the cost per ticket by $2. Youth under the age of 12 are free when accompanied by a paying adult.
