Marion County Clerk Bill Burgess says he has seen "quite a few" republicans re-register as democrats who then request their registration automatically switch back to Republican after the primary.

A campaign spurred on by conservative commentators, such as The Oregonian's David Reinhard and right-wing talk show host Rush Limbaugh, encourages republicans to re-register as Democrats before the April 29 deadline so they can influence the Democratic primary outcome. They recommend voting for Clinton to keep the contest from ending.

Eugene's daily paper reported that in the past few months 7,318 Oregon voters re-registered as Democrats, including 2,644 who had been Republicans. The Oregon Republican Party, meanwhile, picked up just 1,426 party switchers, of which 596 had left the Democratic Party.

In Marion County, the number of Democrats has increased by 994 voters since December 31, 2007.

Republican registrations have increased by 368. There were 283 registered Republicans who changed their registration to Democratic since Dec 31, 2007. There were 90 democrats who changed their registration to republican during that time.
